2017 Season

Reasons to Pretty by Neil LaBute

Greg, Kent and Carly work dead end jobs in a warehouse; Steph is a hairdresser. All in their 20’s, they are trying to come to terms with life and their place in it. There are hook-ups and breakups and struggles to keep friendship alive, but this play is mostly about the power of language and listening.

Uncanny by Miles Gatrell

Imagine if Wes Anderson directed the Buffy Cast in an X-Men movie.

High school senior Eileen Monroe has been reading minds since she was thirteen. As her faith in the world dwindles, she is offered the opportunity to join a team of teenage superhero called The Uncanny Youths. Under the tutelage of English teacher Paul Paton, Eileen and her crew of superpowered oddballs discover if they have what it takes to be the next generation of heroes.

Silent Sky by Lauren Gunderson

When Henrietta Leavitt begins work at the Harvard Observatory in the early 1900s, she isn’t allowed to touch a telescope or express an original idea. Instead, she joins a group of women “computers,” charting the stars for a renowned astronomer who calculates projects in “girl hours” and has no time for the women’s probing theories. As Henrietta, in her free time, attempts to measure the light and distance of stars, she must also take measure of her life on Earth, trying to balance her dedication to science with family obligations and the possibility of love.

Silent Sky is presented as part of our Women Pioneer Series
